White Van Syndrome | Don’t Tire of Van Hire Funnies

Here at Nothing Interesting we are curious about the “white van syndrome” and aim to explain why after being told about the popularity of white vans many people with nothing interesting to do but study van colour report a dramatic increase in white van sightings.

Until now the only white syndrome we have been aware of is white coat hypertension - where an association is made between having your blood pressure measured in a clinical or medical environment (ie white lab coats) has the effect of raising blood pressure highr than its normal level.  Many people are affected by white coat hypertension who needlessly think that they have high blood pressure when in fact their blood pressure is noticably lower when measured whilst relaxed at home.

One theory about white van syndrome is that many of the vans on the roads are hired and almost all hire vans are white.  We phoned around a selection of van hire companies and tried to rent a non-white van.  The response was illuminating:

Never had that requested before

What’s the matter - white no good for you

You a racist mate?

We can always not wash the van if that helps

Trying to keep a straight face I pressed the receptionists further and asked if thye could actually supply a dirty van complete with witty finger written messages - “I wish my missus was this dirty” Vantastic!

Sleepy Summertime - Portable Beds

Big on Beds

kylie-at-home.jpg

Not so long ago we offered nothing interesting about beds and getting a good nights sleep which highlighted the importance of choosing the right bed for comfort and restful sleep.

Continuing that theme we now explore other beds which you may need to consider using from time to time either as a guest on a sofa bed or taking your own portable beds - especially blow up beds and camp beds.

Guest beds

Do as to others as you would have others do to you.  When you are kindly offered a bed for the night aren’t you pleased when its time to go to bed that the guest bed, ready made with clean bedding, turns out to be a smart sofa bed or easily storable divan?

So why then would you want to return such thoughtfulness by offering your own guests a airbed mattress or a camp bed with stale sleeping bag?  Prices of portable beds have dropped so don’t be shy - tell your guests that you have few friends and poor facilitiesso they might consider bringing their own guest beds for the night.

Many visitors will have already got good quality portable beds and suitable sleeping bags especially if they have been on dirty weekend camping or enjoyed one of the many music festivals this year.

Blow that for a game.

If you have an inflatable mattress wait until you are near to your destination and stop at  a petrol station to use the air pump - you can buy special adapters that connect the garage air pump to the airbed - just be very careful not to over inflate otherwise your bed will do a huge fart and fly off across the forecourt.

Find the right beds and sleeping bags and you are half way to a good nights sleep - sweet dreams campers everywhere.
