price of petrol

Once again, lately the price of petrol has been creeping up towards the £1 mark, and this morning I heard that an independant research company announced that the countries average price for a litre of unleaded is now 100.08p.

I know what oil prices have been rising of late as well (breaking the $98 mark with a weak dollar), which is probably the reason for the increase in petrol prices, but how much tax and duty do the government take in every £1 spent on fuel? Well, heres a little images that shows exactly that…

petrol cost breakdown

I think its amazing that the government take over 65% of every pound spent on petrol. How can the roads in the UK be so bad, pot holed and bumpy if we are paying so very much for the privilege to keep our cars running (and thats not including road tax etc). Just think of the amount of money thats spend on fuel everyday throughout the whole of the UK, and then think that 65% of that goes to the government. What are they doing with it?? (probably paying our MP’s expenses).

Rant over.
