Happy St Georges day,

Happy St Georges day everyone.

i have just been reading up on old St George to find out a little more about the patron saint of England. It turns out that St george was infact born in Turkey in A.D 270. He was a Christian who joined the Roman army and traveled to many countries including England. While in England he heard of his teh Roman emperor was killing all Christians, so he went back to Rome to try and stop him. He was captured and tortured by the Romans but still kept his faith, and was fianlly beheaded on the 23rd of April 303.

There was me thinking that St George was an English man who slayed a dragon and saved a princess.

Which brings me onto my next question, why don’t the British celebrate St Georges day like the Irish celebrate St Paddy’s day? And why isn’t the 23rd a national holiday??

It would seem that i’m not the only one who thinks this either, i found this site for St Georges day while trying to find out more about him http://www.stgeorgesday.com/home The site give infomation on how you can help try and make St Georges day a national holiday, and much more.

Anyway, happy St Georges day everyone,

Cheers

Jon
