Vista

Well, its been a long time coming, but Microsoft have finally released their new OS, and, i don’t like it.

For those of you that haven’t seen it yet (where have you been lol), heres a link to the PC World site explaining what benefits Vista has etc etc Windows Vista
Tbh i haven’t yet got the chance to play around with the new system, but looking at the screen shots, and several videos of it working and it all looks very pretty, but tbh, thats not what i want. Call me old fashioned but i don’t need to be able to skip through the windows i have open in 3D, i can see what i have open in the XP start menu bar.

I use a computer everyday at work, so i am used to using the old window XP/2000 which i have come to (dare i say it) like, so any change that Microsoft did that changes the way that people use the OS would be harshly received by me, but i have also heard that they have taken away several useful little features that i have come to depend on everyday at work, like for instance the ‘up a folder’ button in the explorer window. If this is true I can imagine navigating through your folder structure being a pain in the ass (excuse my French). For what has been taken out and added i guess i will have to wait until i use the system for the first time.

Now, time for me to stop say how much i’m not looking forward to having to use Vista in the future, and to tell you about it a little.

Vista will come in 4 main types, Home, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate. Vista Home will be the basic package, where you wont even get the new 3D window shuffling (called Windows Aero graphics) or the new and improved Media centre. But you will get heightened security compared to XP (but thats about it). Home Premium does indeed include all the new 3D window viewing and the new Media centre, plus if you have a Xbox 360 you can wirelessly connect for “the ultimate entertainment network” (so they say). Vista Business is said to be the first Microsoft OS to be targeted specificlly to meet businesses needs. And Window Vista Ultimate basically does what it says on the tin, it has all of the above.

I’m sure that Vista has lots of funky new features and tools, but from what i have read most of the burb about it focuses on how it is the more secure system that Microsoft have ever made, and is the safest operating system available.  This is yet to be seen .

Cheers

Dave
