Selling cars…
As i said in my first post one of my interests is my car, and cars in general.
Currently I am getting my old mk2 Golf GTI ready to sell, manly just because i want something different after having the car for over 2 year (probably longer tbh) and wanting and change of pace.
The thing is that I have never really sold a car privately before (I sold my first car to my dad lol) and I’m wondering if anyone had any tips on successful selling??
The problem I have is that I’m too honest, I can’t help but let the buyer know exactly what problems I know the car has etc (and its an old car, so it has some lol). This may sound good, but I’m afraid I’m going to scare people out of buying the car. So is there anything I shouldn’t say??
I’ll keep you all updated on the developments on selling the car, all I need to do is sort out a small problem with the clutch, and change the backbox (its blowing) and then wait till march to put 12months mot on it and I’ll be ready :S lol.
Cheers
Dave

I recently sold a W-reg Ford Fiesta on eBay. Granted it only had 14,000 miles on the clock. I tend to prefer larger cars for myself, so I thought i’d see what I can get on eBay rather than keep the car. The car was pretty much perfect, but my experience was that lots of people emailed me asking questions as to the cars condition. If you give eBay a go, its worth mentioning any major problems, but lots of people are after VW Golfs because they are very good cars. Even if it does need a little bit of work I don’t think you’ll have any problems shifting it on eBay. Make sure you set a reserve price though

Most people looking at a customised MkII Golf from a character like yourself will no doubt expect some surprises!
I would expect a better price through a private sale - if the car looks nice add a picture. Money spent on proper advertising to a wide audience isn’t wasted.
When you meet the buyer you can judge how much to tell them. As long as the car is safe and you are not trying to ‘tuck them up’ it’s up to you.
Tip - try and find out where they live. Don’t pull a moody on someone that lives 2 streets away because if there are any problems he’ll be knocking on your front door, probably with his mates!
